Local Green Spaces

Through the neighbourhood plan the Mortimer community has identified for special protection green areas of particular importance to Mortimer. By designating land as Local Green Space new developments, other than in very special circumstances, can be ruled out. Identifying land as Local Green Space has to be consistent with the local planning of sustainable development. The designation is typically used only where the green space is in reasonably close proximity to the community it serves; and where the green area is demonstrably special to a local community and holds a particular local significance, for example historic significance, recreational. The green area has to be local in character and not an extensive tract of land. Designated green spaces include such sites as the Fairground, the commons and the Alfred Palmer Memorial Playing Field.
